Celebrating the Liturgical Year During the Month of August - College Edition
Hello! As promised, here is how I'll be celebrating some of my favorite feasts during the month of August! It may look a little sparse, but as things will be a bit different for me this academic semester and I'm not sure how busy I'll be, I decided to try and keep it as low-key as I could to ensure as much as possible that I still celebrated. Also, while this list does not show the feasts that my family and I may celebrate earlier in the month, it does show all the ones that I'll be commemorating back at college. And so, without further ado, here's the list:
Monthly Devotion - The Immaculate Heart of Mary
August 14th - Saint Maximillian Kolbe: Read about St. Maximillian's life and offer up a Rosary for all those he is the patron Saint of. Watch "Life for Life: Maximillian Kolbe" on FORMED (if possible) and sacrifice something for someone else today in imitation of Saint Maximillian.
August 15th - The Assumption (Holy Day of Obligation) + Start of 54 Rosary Novena for God's peace and blessing surrounding the coming election: Attend Mass and eat a meal prepared with fresh herbs. Sing/pray the Maronite Hymn of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on catholicculture.org.
August 22nd - The Queenship of Mary: Read about Our Lady's Queenships and pray the Prayer to Our Lady, Queen of Heaven on catholicculture.org.
August 24th - Saint Bartholomew: Read about St. Bartholomew's life, eat gingerbread or a (cinnamon)roll/bun, or any kind of root vegetable (such as potatoes or carrots) that are usually peeled (this idea is from Catholic All Year) in his honor and pray the Collect for his feast on catholicculture.org.
August 27th - Saint Monica: Read "Saint Monica Struggled to Surrender Her Son to God" on Catholic Stand and ask for her intercession to persevere in the Faith even when my prayers are not answered as I wish, or right away. Also, pray for all those for whom she is the patron Saint of.
August 28th - Saint Augustine: Thank Saint Augustine for his help in high school, pray the Litany of Saint Augustine on catholicculture.org and eat African or Italian food today in his honor, if possible.
As you can see, I tried to be as simple as possible in how I was to celebrate, and I also tried to keep it as free as possible. This helps to ensure that it is do-able in the busyness that is college life. And while I know that there are probably a few that I'll miss celebrating due to a myriad of reasons, because I have it all planned out, I can just celebrate the next feast without a problem.
I have to go, but I hope this helps! Until next time!
Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
