October - Celebrating the Liturgical Year as a College Student
Hey guys! Even though the month is already in full swing, I thought I'd share what I've been doing to celebrate the different feast days for October. First of all, though, I'd just like to say that things are always better when you're not the only one doing them! My best friend has gotten into celebrating the Liturgical Year and they have not only reminded me of why I love celebrating it, but have also inspired me to seek to do it in special, little ways. And so, here's what I've done this month (and yes, for one of the first times, I've actually done it all so far 😄):
October 1 - Saint Therese of Lisieux: Pray the Litany of Saint Therese* and make three sacrifices
October 2 - Feast of the Guardian Angels: Eat angel food cake (Much thanks to my friend for sharing theirs with me!)
October 4 - Saint Francis: Pray the Prayer to be an Instrument of Peace, do something to bear witness to Christ through my actions and not just my words
October 5 - Saint Faustina: Do one Corporal or Spiritual Work of Mercy, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet
October 7 - Our Lady of the Rosary: Pray the Rosary
October 14 - Saint Callistus I: Pray a Rosary for the Holy Souls in Purgatory
October 15 - Saint Teresa: Pray the Litany of Saint Teresa of Avila*, make a Saint Teresa Bookmark*
October 18 - Saint Luke: Pray for the sick, do something artistic
October 19 - Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko: Pray for those persecuted for the Faith, bear witness to the Faith today or pray for the courage to do so
October 22 - Pope Saint John Paul II: Pray the Collect, walk the trail at the Nature Reserve
October 23 - Saint John Capistrano: Pray for all those discerning their vocation, ask Saint John for help in discerning my own
October 28 - Saints Simon and Jude: Say a prayer of thanksgiving to Saint Jude for all the help and graces I have received through his intercession, pray the Divine Praises
October 31 - All Hallows' Eve: Abstain from meat, eat pancakes or donuts for breakfast or drink apple juice (all traditional foods), pray the Dies Irae, Dies Illa
I hope this post gives you some ideas for how to celebrate the Liturgical Year where you're at! God bless! Until next time!
Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
