Made for Greatness
There are a lot of changes coming up this year for me at college. To be honest, I'm anxious and scared about the road that is now fast approaching me as summer comes to an end and classes start back. But it is in moments such as these that I remember and pray with all my heart those consoling words: "Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You." It is also in these moments that God provides, showing me that it is safe to trust Him and that He will not abandon me, especially when it gets hard. One such way that God did this was by giving me a new perspective on one of my favorite quotes by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI: "The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness."
While I had always thought of this in terms of "luxury-comfort," Trey Shields, from Coffee with the Saints, offered this perspective: "...How many of us have achieved something great by just staying comfortable? Greatness is achieved through great effort, endurance, patience, and work...studying diligently instead of taking a nap or relaxing with friends...pushing through those extra reps with excellent form instead of stopping mid set...waking up lovingly with your infant for the 4th time in the middle of the night...maintaining a fast instead of indulging...remaining faithful to consistent daily prayer instead of getting lost in social media browsing..."
When I read this for the first time, I at once felt comforted and inspired. "How many of us have achieved something great by just staying comfortable?" and "Greatness is achieved through great effort, endurance, patience, and work..." spoke to my heart. Yes, these times ahead will be hard. They will require "great effort, endurance, patience, and work", but God knows this, and in His Wisdom He has already provided for me, because He is there even now, waiting for me with His Grace, Love, and Mercy. Yes, these times ahead will be hard, but God knows what He is doing. He has made me for greatness, and He will not settle for anything less. All I have to do is trust and believe that I am made for greatness, too. Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
